Kenya’s innovative approach to public procurement and Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) has earned continental recognition after the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management and the PPP Directorate won four prestigious awards at the 8th Africa Procurement and Supply Chain Summit and Awards 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria.
The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management, Mr. Cyrell Wagunda, was named Public Sector Procurement and Asset Management Leader of the Year, while the PPP Directorate received the Collaborative Governance Award in Public Procurement, recognising the institution’s innovative and collaborative approach to procurement and governance.
The PPP Directorate also secured two individual honours. The Director General, Eng. Kefa Seda, received the PPP Infrastructure Procurement and Investment Leadership Award, while the Directorate’s Head of Procurement, Ms. Monicah Mwangi, was recognised as the Emerging Procurement Leader of the Year, underscoring the Directorate’s commitment to excellence and innovation in procurement.
Kenya’s delegation was led by the State Department’s Procurement Lead, Ms. Ruth Barasa, who represented the Principal Secretary at the event, while Ms. Monicah Mwangi represented the PPP Directorate during the awards ceremony.
The awards reaffirm Kenya’s growing leadership in innovative public procurement, collaborative governance and the use of Public Private Partnerships to deliver transformative infrastructure and public services across the country.
The summit brought together procurement, supply chain, logistics and public sector leaders from across Africa to exchange innovative ideas and best practices for strengthening procurement systems, infrastructure delivery and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Kenyan team paid a courtesy call on Nigeria’s PPP Unit in Lagos, where they held discussions with the Lagos State Special Advisor to the Governor on PPPs, Mrs. Bukola Odoe, and Mr. Akintunde Subair of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency to exchange experiences and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration and innovative PPP solutions between the two countries.
